Today I decided to go for a drive and ended up going to a few rummage sales. Well at the last one I noticed this really nasty algae lined half dead peace lily in a vase that I could only assume had a poor defensless fish in it. Sure enough, laying on the bottom of the vase was a light pink looking betta with half of his tail gone. I immediately grabbed the thing and paid for it ($5.00) and headed home while trying to figure out what to do with the poor fish. I know what to do with it as I have 3 already, but what to do first was more like it. After throwing out the nasty plant, getting the poor fish into clean water with a couple betta pellets I set to work scraping the stupid algae off the sides of the vase. An hour later the vase is actually very nice and will have to do as his home for a little while until payday and I can get him a new tank with a filter. It is quite big - just under two gallons so he will be OK for a little while. Anything is better than the way he was before.
I asked the lady how long she had the fish - she had no idea.
I asked how often she fed it - she had no idea as it was in their sunroom and they did not spend a lot of time in there so it was when she remembered it was there.
Her closing statement was at least the fish will eventually make good fertilizer for the plant. I could have screamed!!! But I just gathered up my new rescue and swore under my breath all the way home.
A couple hours after getting into clean water he has eaten a pellet and is beginning to swim around. Maybe he will make it after all. Everyone keep their fingers crossed.
I think he will make it,
i hate it when people mistreat their fish that way, its just wrong!

LoL, i wonder if she even knew she had a fish?
Thats just plain NASTY
I can believe some people, i hope he makes it
Keep us posted on how he is doing
I named him Kaden (means fighter) and he seems to be doing very well. I now have flowers in the big vase - as it should be. Kaden is busy checking out his new eclipse 5 gallon hex tank. He likes to to just hover and watch me when I am at the computer (his tank is right next to the computer desk). I think he will be just fine.
Once he settles in I think I will get him a tankmate. Maybe a cory or a couple ghost shrimp.
What a horrible thing to happen to a living being!
Good luck
honistal that is so stupid a guy that i was chatting with told me his mom had an oscar in a 20g tank it was 8" long and he didnt knwo why it died.

hmmmmm, let me think BIG fish little tank...go figure. It really annoys me when people do not know about what they have as pets. If there is no basic understanding of the pet's most basic needs the people should not have it until they get a clue.
I have a hex 5 gallon too. I like it.
Glad you saved him!
