Hello. If any of you were wondering how the Marineland Emperor 400 worked, now you can figure it out!

The Marineland Emperor 400 is a very strong filter. It keeps my 72g bow clean. It is quiet, reliable, and has lots of room for carts. There are some problems though. When starting it back up after a power failure or a water change, it likes to chug water and make loud sounds. Priming takes awhile, but it works fine once it is done throwing a fit. Another problem is the price. Although you can find it for $37.99 on some online store, many aquarists are kept away from it because of the retail price tag. This averages between $55 to $99.

All in all, this is my favorite filter!

That's true. Although I try to stay away from the hang-on-back type of filters, the Marineland Emperor 400, and the whole Emperor series, for that matter, is, all in all, a great buy. They work better than most hang on backs, and offer a lot of room for filter media. Make sure to put your media in a bag though, so it doesn't clog your filter up.

I put my media in the extra empty carts they give you.

I used to do that untill I stepped on one and it broke. Hurt my foot, too. That's what convinced me I needed to buy a cabinet just for aquarium supplies. Once I got the cabinet, I realized I needed a life.
