My 72g bowfront was running fine for about 5 months, no problems at all. Every fish was acting normal, swimming and eating fine. All of a sudden, my Rainbowfish comes up with popeye. I treated the tank, took out the rainbow, and did 2 water changes. Later on, my Dwarf Blue Gourami gets the same disease. Now, almost every fish in the tank is diseased exept for my Lemon Tetras.

Current Death Toll:
1 Aussie Rainbowfish
1 Dawrf Blue Gourami
1 Iridescent Shark
2 Common Plecos

Fish that appear Ill:
3 Neon Tetras
1 Dwarf Blue Gourami
1 Female Paradisefish
3 Bala Sharks
....More will most likely turn up soon.

Ahh thats horrible. I haven't heard of popeye killing fish though huh.gif . I've had a couple bettas that had it, and it cleared right up with a lil melafix. Hmm... Well here's a link on popeye, it might help you out. But If there is anything else that seems odd then tell us. Best of luck... unsure.gif

The popeye in my fish is an Internal Parasite (worms) which is why it is killing my fish. There is no stop to it.

I cant help as far as treating it but just wanted to say that it sucks that all of them are getting it, maybe you need to bring out the BIG GUNS and nuke all the disease and hope it doesnt knock your fish off wink.gif

Ok from what i have found, generally popeye is not fatal, but of course your fish will probably loose sight in that eye or loose the eye all together. reef/flirt.gif

You think the fish also have an internal parasite?
Worms possibly is that right?

I will try to do some reseach on internal parasites to see what is recommended for ya reef/naughty.gif

Have you tied medicated food for the internal parasites?

I am guessing it is something like skin or gill flukes, tell me more about the symtoms and what you have been using and i will try to find more info.

Thanks
Aimee

Yeah... Worms and Popeye. The popeye is most likely caused by them.

fishfriend- 07-31-2005
NTF....where are you?

Tell me about the symtoms....

Aimee

NeonTetraFan- 07-31-2005
Where am I? What do you mean? lol.

Symtoms include:
Eyes turn black then fall out
Fish swimming incorrectly, some swim sideways every so often
Bala Sharks are extremely jumpy
Silver Dollar swimming franticly
Paradisefish floating sometimes instead of swimming

Ok well if it is Flukes, which presents itself but the fish racing unusually around the tank it is recommended to use "Aquarium Products anti-fluke treatment".
You should have a look at this site, it may help you

The only thing that keeps me from thinking flukes is that they never rub up against something.
