Hello! I am going to try a reef aquarium for the first time, but I've been keeping freshwater fish for a few years already. I was hoping someone would tell me how much light would I need to support a couple mushroom corals? Thanks.

well, i would say welcome to the club, and another thing, which you prob know, reefs can be very expensive to start and a little bit more time consuming (not much)

the first thing i would ask yourself, are shrooms and maybe other softies the only thing i want to keep, even if it is just to get a feel, which is good

lighting can be debated and debated, but, for just some shrooms and maybe a few other softies, PC's and VHO's an be used usually w/o any issues (depending on the tank depth) the depper the tank the more "intense" lighting your corals will require
the more lighitng the better, imo, but that depends on how funny the money is, lol

one other thing i would recomend, as i didnt do myself, dont skimp on equipment. that is something that isnt easy to explain sometimes and most people find out the hard way with junk skimmers and poor lighitng sitting in the basement waiting for a diy project

skimmers, lighitng and live rock are the keys to a succesfull reef tank, before you buy do some research, it well save you $$$$ biggrin.gif
