Many people have never setup an aquarium before. So I decided to help out by posting an article of how to setup an aquarium. In this setup, I will be setting up a 10 gallon aquarium.

Items you will need:
10 Gallon Tank
Hood & Light
50 Watt Heater
Filter
10 lbs. Aquarium Gravel
Decorations
Water Conditioner

Step One: Placement
You should place your aquarium in a spot behind a wall, and away from windows. This will keep most algae from growing on your tank walls and decorations. You should also place it away from an air vent so the water is not heated or cooled more than it should be.

Step Two: Laying down gravel
Now you should lay down the gravel. You can lay this flat or you can get creative! You should get at least 10 lbs. of gravel.

Step Three: Filling the tank and adding decor
Now, fill the tank with tap water or whatever water you are planning to use. Once the tank is full, use water conditioner or dechlorinator to make sure there is no chlorine in your tankwater. Once you have done this, place your decorations where you want them. If you are using large rocks, make sure they are cured before putting them into your tank.

Starting it up
Now you can add a filter and heater. For a filter, get a filter that filters about 100 gallons per hour. This will provide maximum filtration. For a heater, make sure that it is at least 50 watts. Once you add these to your tank, start everything up.

The Waiting Period
Before you add any fish, you need to let the tank run for at least 48 hours. After this time, -*test*-('") your water. If your water reads 0 ammonia, you should be good to go.

Buying Fish
When buying fish, make sure that every fish you buy can live with one another. If you have any questions about putting a fish with another, post in the freshwater forum and someone will help you. When adding fish, add no more than 4 per week to make sure that your tank does not go into shock.
