Ok this will -*test*-('") your knowledge guys LOL

Have you ever known a golfish to not like being with other goldfish?
I have one particular goldfish that got put in a 300L tank with 4 other GF and some white cloud minnows (12) and he got Ick then cotton wool disease.
SO once i had treated him and all was ok i decided that i would try him in my other well established tank to see how he went, well he decided to get dropsy (you know pinecone) so i once again isolated him and treated successfully, then put him back into the tank with the others, well within 1 week he had dropsy again so back into the hospital tank.
I decided at this point ot not treat with anything but water changes and just keeping an eye on him since i know dropsy generally is not treatable.
Well he gets better, so i put him in a new (uncycled) tank with some minnows and he is as happy as larry, and we are half way through a cycle and nothing, no disease or stress.
What in heavens name is wrong with this fish?

Well,

im not sure what can be wrong with it,

but i congradulate you on treating dropsy,
as i usually lose all my fish that get it,

I've lost every fish that got dropsy. Congrats. I dunno, I've never heard of a demented goldfish getting one disease after another. Was he exposed to old tank water at all? Did you let water from the bag he came in get into the tank at all? He might have just been stressed out from the tanks he was in. Is there any difference between the wank he was in, and the one he's at now? Different temperature, maybe?

Ok i got him from the LFS put him in the hospital tank for 1 week then moved him to the 300L tank with 5 other GF, floated the bag ect, he was ok for about 3 weeks and then got cotton wool fungus, I was under the impression that most disease would have shown themselves within about 2 weeks of purchase. Anyway i hospitalised him again and the fungus was gone in 1 week but he stayed in the hospital for another 1 week after no fungus. (none of the other GF have had anything).
Put him back in 300L and he gets ick within 2 weeks by this time i have just about lost my cool with this fish so back to the hospital he goes for another round of anti-bacterial treatment.
Again gets better and stays for a total of 2 weeks in hospital and i decided to try him in another tank that has been running with perfect figures for 3 months.
And he gets dropsy, so i treat with salted water, and anti-bacterial it gets better so back to the well established tank he goes and within 1 week has dropsy again GRRRRRR so i treat with regular water changes ect because i have not heard of to many success storys with dropsy, and since this was the second case i didnt think he had much chance of survival, but bugger me he gets better in about 2.5 weeks so i have a tank starting to cycle and decided to dump him in there and see what happens, he was fine and get this i didnt even aclimatize him i just dumped him *shock* the tank is now cycled and he is still happy and healthy with the white clouds.
Must just think they will make a great snack when he gets bigger LOL

I got a fish and the disease (popeye) didn't show up until 3 months later. So now almost every fish in my 72g bow has it.

fishfriend- 07-30-2005
OH NO, that sucks.

Well the white fish (goldfish but white in colour) is still doing great, his tank is fully cycled and no more illness, must just be a loner wink.gif

Good to know, Aimee!

I bet he was probably sick when you got him even though he didn't show it. Then with all the new stress of being moved and new water conditions, ect, made him septable to the fungus. So after going through more stress of everything, ich (who are always present in the water) attacked him because of his weaken immune system. As for the dropsy, no one really knows how or why fish get it, but i bet the stress of all this didn't help. It's great that he pulled through it though reef/beerchug.gif . And finally, when you decided to just let him be, he didn't have anymore things to stress him like the meds and moving him back and forth. Well that's my take on it. tongue.gif
