Very nice. I see you've also researched the subject, or done it before, or else you wouldn't have known about the fowm cup trick. Make sure to remove the mother shortly after she's laid the eggs, so she doesn't get beaten up. The father needs to stay for a little while though, usually I keep him in untill the babies hatch, and hope I can get him outta there before he eats his children. Good luck, and keep us posted. Thanks.

Ive done some reading on breeding bettas but I never heard of the "cup" part of it...what purpose does that have?? Im very curious

Well, this post has been dead for awhile, but that's besides the point. The foam cup, or at least the ridge(part you brink from) is usually floated on top. The male will make his bubble nest in it, and the cup will keep it safe from disturbances such as filters. It's a really neat trick, and the buddle nest will, in many cases, fall apart without it.

Have you had any luck with the breeding yet fris?
I have read that you remove the male once the babys are starting to swim, while they are still in the bubblenest the male tends to their needs and then when they start swimming he starts his first course meal LOL

Hope you have had some luck

thanks for the info ross...so would you cut the top of the cup off forming a ring to float in the water?? Thats how i understand it.

SoulWeaver- 08-07-2005
Not quite, you cut it in half vertically straight down the middle, it should sorta look like this... You then lay the cut edges into the water

Top -->......*********|
Rim -->...|_________|
Side -->.......\######|<-- Cut edge
Side -->.........\#####|
Side -->...........\####|
Bottom -->.........\____|

(sorry if this is confusing, but i tried, if you want i'll try to find some pictures for you)

Wow i havent been on in so long!!! i was the one who originally posted this but ive been so busy on a car project. Converted my 1982 Mercedes 300sd diesel to run on waste veggie oil that i can get from fast food places! Yes it was a success and now my car burns cleaner than a hybrid gas car and i dont pay a cent at the pump!!!

Anyway the bettas were a success, I only had about 20 fry survive and gave the parents and the fry all to people who wanted them. It was fun but now the tank is just empty.

Welcome back!! That's pretty cool about your car, and it's great that it's a lot better for the environment. I always feel bad about polution from my car, and other things since I love nature. Maybe someday I'll get something better than what I have but right now I just don't have any money. Anyways.. you still keep bettas, or were those the last you had? Well, once again, it's nice to have you back. smile.gif

soulweaver. If your interested in making the enviroment better and not spending money on fuel then check out this book---> From The Fryer To The Fuel Tank by Joshua Tickell. It explains all about bio-diesel(that doesnt need a kit conversion) but it costs same as normal gas would or if you would like to pay nothing and just take the time out to filter used cooking oil u can get from fast food joints take a look at GREASECAR.COM
My car is on the forum. I learned that any mercedes diesel under 1985 doesnt even need anytype of conversion if you live in a warm area. laugh.gif

Alright thanks. I'll check those out. My car (95 aurora oldsmobile) would be harder to convert than your mercedes and plus I live in Minnesota (just under Canada) which is known to be freezing tongue.gif. But I'll look into this stuff anyways. Thanks
